ideation
The ideation phase lasted for a week and explored a range of ideas that had a focus on usability and aesthetics.
Concept boards
These are the boards that were produced after several days of ideation. The focus here is ensuring the product can be updated, to avoid aesthetical obsolescence, which was found to be one of the most common reasons for waste. By having a facade, the design can be updated and repaired instead of a bin.
Development
The development stage focused on ensuring manufacturability and reducing any excess weight, to help reduce fuel consumption.
Prototyping
Serveral models were produced, to help visiualise the soltion with proportion as producing a 1:1 model would take too long and be too costly for a realivley short project.
Manufacturing
Similar to all other projects, manufacturing is very important. Ensuring a feasible product is produced. The proposal was to use a mixture of cork, to allow for the casing to be entirely recycled.
Presentation boards
Several presentation boards were produced to accompany the presentation of the design. They show any features the solution has and the other important details, such as manufacturing intent.
Sustainability report
A 72-page sustainability report was produced to justify design decisions made to reduce the carbon footprint. Tessellation, material analysis, production origin, and transportation methods were all researched in depth to ensure a product that adheres to the circular economy principles. The images to the right, show some of these pages and the details presented.
